I have been lucky enough to be able to work from home since this horrific COVID-19 pandemic started. As most of us working remotely, we need to connect to a VPN to get access to our work systems, using our work computer. The problem is that if you are like me, you also own a personal computer, and since we spend most of our day at home, it’s hard to separate what we do in our work computer and what we do in our personal one.

In a perfect world, you will try to use your work computer just for work matters, but the reality is that you end up checking your personal email or your personal bank account or paying a home bill using this computer.

This is why I found that a KVM switch was exactly what I needed.

KVM stands for Keyboard, Video and Mouse, in other words it’s a way of sharing your USB keyboard, monitor and mouse between two computers, and when you want to switch from one to another, you just press the switch button.

Honestly, it has been the best investment for my home office besides my office chair and I definitely recommend to you to get one.

The one I bought is this one:

I never used a product from Greathtek before, but so far, it’s really good and also you don’t need to install any drivers, it works out of the box.

Do you think you could benefit form a device like this one?

  1. I liked it, but I feel it’s a bit slow. I see an average of 3s. Not sure if using only a usb switch without sharing the monitor would make a difference and get a 1s less speed?
